Hen behind bars of cage

You can change the lives of chickens

A Cage-Free Future Starts with You

Your generosity will help ensure animals are treated with the compassion and respect they deserve.

Why is your support so crucial?

Farmed animals are suffering.

It is estimated that more than 60 percent of the world’s eggs are produced in industrial systems that implement lower-welfare practices.

Caged hens are deprived of almost everything that makes life worth living. Most will never experience the outside world. These animals are exhausted, and their suffering is immense.

You can help stop this nightmare by donating now.

Cage confinement is cruel.

While barren battery cages were banned in the European Union in 2012, 71 percent of US egg-laying hens remain confined within them.

Each battery cage houses up to 10 birds. The average space allowance per bird in a typical battery cage is less than a letter-size sheet of paper, and the height is just enough to allow the hen to stand.

Each shed typically houses tens of thousands of hens this way, and the largest sheds can contain more than a hundred thousand birds. These buildings are typically artificially lit and ventilated. Caged hens may never experience natural light, fresh air, or get to walk on solid ground and do not leave their cages until they are gathered for slaughter.

EggTrack is changing lives.

Top food companies have committed to going 100% cage-free—transitioning supply chains to source eggs only from cage-free hens by 2026 or sooner. Together, these animal welfare commitments in the US, Europe, and across the world have the potential to impact the lives of billions of egg-laying hens.

That’s why we created EggTrack, an innovative tool to track companies’ progress towards their 100% cage-free goals. EggTrack is designed to:

  • Ensure food companies can and will stick to their cage-free egg commitments;
  • Encourage transparency in the marketplace; and
  • Assist food companies during their transition to a 100% cage-free egg supply.
